The Association was once affiliated to International Statistical Institute (Netherlands), Institute of Quality Assurance (UK), and Asia Pacific Quality Organisation (Phillipines). In recognition of the service rendered by IAPQR in promoting the cause of Quality and Reliability in the country, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has accepted the representation of the Association in its various technical committees and sub-committees as also the National Awards Committee for the Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award.

Training is an area of strength of the Association. The Training Division of the Association has been recognised as a preparatory college by the Institute of Quality Assurance (UK) for their Diploma in Quality Examination leading to their Membership and the American Society for Quality for their various examinations including Six Sigma Black Belt Examination. It is worthwhile to mention that the students so far prepared by the Association for Six Sigma Black Belt Examination have come out successful with flying colours.


Besides, the Association organizes from time -to-time short-term programmes on such topics as Statistical Process Control, Quality Improvement Techniques, Quality Audit, Six Sigma Initiatives, Process Capability Studies, Quality in Service Sectors, Emotional Intelligence and Leadership, Total Quality Management, Total Productive Maintenance, 5-S Methodology, Research Methodology, Statistical Methods for Research Workers, 8D Methodology, Good Governance at Schools, Empirical Research and Environmental Modelling, TRIZ, Knowledge Management, Uncertainty in Measurements, Analytical Skill Development, etc. The Association has undertaken a number of consultancy assignments on implementation of ISO 9000 Series of Standards (including Revision 2000) in several industries across the country. The Association has signed an MOU with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR), New Delhi for training of their personnel in various fields for the benefit of their scientists and other staff, and has conducted a good number of training programmes at CSIR-HRDC, Ghaziabad Centre and quite a few CSIR laboratories across the country during the last few years.

The Association organizes on a regular basis, international, national and regional programmes such as conferences, seminars, symposia and workshops on quality-related topics. e.g. , First Asian Congress on Quality and Reliability (New Delhi 1989 : jointly with Indian Statistical Institute and BIS), Conferences on Quality and Reliability : Inputs in Science and Technology( Kolkata 1994) , National Conference on Quality Assurance in Health Care (Kolkata 1999), National on Quality of Life (jointly with Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan, 2002), International Conference on Emerging Trends in Productivity, Quality and Reliability (in collaboration with the Central Glass & Ceramics Research Institute(CGCRI), Kolkata, 2003), International Conference on Innovation and Technology Management jointly with CGCRI, Kolkata, 2006, National Conference on Quality Improvement in Food Processing : Role of Science and Technology (in collaboration with the Indian Science Congress Association and the Department of Food Processing Industries, Govt. of India), National Dialogue on Genetically Modified Seeds (Kolkata 2007), National Seminar on Carbon Capture, Sequestration and Trading (Kolkata, 2008), International Conference on Education : Indian and Global Perspectives (Belurmath, 2009), National Conference on Agricultural and Industrial Metabolism (Kolkata, 2010), International Conference on Invention, Innovation and Technology (Kolkata, 2012), National Conference on New Materials and Processes for Improving Quality of Infrastructure (jointly with University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad, 2012), etc.

It also observes World Quality Day every second Thursday of November in different cities of the country , as part of its commitment for awareness generation among all concerned. Besides, semi-technical popular lectures are regularly arranged through annual Professor P.K. Bose Memorial Lecture, B. Himatsingka Memorial Oration, Professor M. N. Gopalan Endowment Lecture, Get-together meetings involving such personalities as Professor M. G. K. Menon, Professor P. Rama Rao, Dr. Manju Sharma, the late Dr. A. P. Mitra, Professor Jayanta Kumar Ghosh, Professor R. Natarajan, Mr. N. Vittal, Professor Bikash Sinha, Professor Vivienne Baumfield, Swami Prabhananda, Professor M. S. Swaminathan, and Professor S. K. Chatterjee.

The Association publishes IAPQR Transactions, the only journal in the country in the field of quality. It is now in the 39th year of publication, and its content are reviewed and abstracted in reputed international periodicals. The journal is exchanged with almost all related journals published in India & abroad. Another regular publication of the Association is its newsletter Communique (now in its 26th year of publication) in which semi-technical articles as well as case studies , are also published. Besides, the technical monograph, proceedings of important conferences and symposia, are also brought out by the Association from the time to time, occasionally from reputed international publishers like World Scientific, Singapore.


Visibility and activities of the Association are gradually expanding throughout the country with its Orissa Chapter at Dhenkanal and Madras Chapter at Chennai.


OBJECTIVES

To offer courses of instruction and facilities for research in all aspect of Quality and Reliability Theory as well as in Industrial Engineering and Oparations Research.

To conduct examinations leading to the award of degrees diplomas, certificates and other distinctions on an All India basis.

To hold lectures, seminers, symposia and other events to promote and propagate the cause of Productivity, Quality and Reliability in products, processes and services.

To hold annual conferences on Quality related themes in collaboration with academic bodies and industries interested in these fields.

To render competent technical advice to institutions and undertake consultancy work in the area of Productivity services.
